Chilling Out: RSDM Wins Hockey Fundraiser

The New Jersey Devils may have won the Stanley Cup, but do they floss? The Bitewings undoubtedly do – which may or may not have contributed to their 5-3 victory over the Medwings this month.

The annual hockey match, which pits the dental school's Bitewing team against the medical school, has become a tradition that raises funds for a worthy cause. This year’s game, partially sponsored by the NHL and held at the Prudential Center in Newark, raised more than $15,000 for the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation, which helps families who are struggling with a child’s illness from cancer.

Known as the “docs vs. dents” match, the tradition began in 2013 when the teams raised money for Hurricane Sandy victims. Normally, they play on one intermural league against other teams, but face off against each other once a year for charity. So far, the dental school is leading over the medical school in terms of wins. Last year, the Bitewings lost, but they beat their rivals two yeas ago.
