The theme of this year's 2017 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition was Beyond Boundaries — an invitation for attendees to think outside the box to find better methods of instruction, professional development and patient care.

RSDM answered the call. Many  faculty, staff and students presented at the event or were honored with awards, making the exhibition, held in March, one of the most successful for the school. Seven percent of the total accepted poster abstracts were from RSDM, which presented 12 posters and participated in other conference programs.
“We were extremely well represented. We have a lot of innovative programs that were reflected, such as our leadership in the diversity and inclusion arena and also innovation in professional education,’’ said Dean Feldman.

Presentations included "Patient Complaints: From Lemons to Lemonade" by Drs. Jill York, Janine Fredericks-Younger and Marissa Handelman-Yellin; and "Special Populations Inter-Professional Care Experiences: A New Program" by Emily Sabato and Drs. Valerie Ricco, Kim Fenesy, Jeanette DeCastro and Herminio Perez. Third-year student Siddhi Shah also presented a poster, "Learning Communities to Foster a Humanistic Learning Environment.''

Two RSDM deans received citations for their work at the exhibition: Dr. Kim Fenesy, Vice Dean of RSDM, and Dr. Rosa Chaviano- Moran,  Associate Dean of Admissions. Chaviano-Moran was cited for her national leadership role in the holistic admissions movement, which looks beyond grades and test scores to determine a students strengths and her advocacy for student diversity.

Fenesey was cited for fulfilling the role of acting dean with “incredible grace” while Dean Feldman served as ADEA Board of Directors Chair.
