Got Research? Publish it in RSDM's Student Journal

RSDM’s student research publication, the Rutgers Journal of Dentistry, is eagerly looking for submissions. “We need students to support their own journal,’’ said second-year student Taha Azimaie, an editor of the journal. “The main idea is to show what people here do, to introduce the research they've completed.’’

Journal submissions are peer-reviewed, selected, and edited entirely by students to showcase the work of classmates throughout RSDM. Last year’s journal included papers on treatments for trigeminal neuropathy and diagnosing developmental tooth anomalies with cone beam computed tomography, among others.

Azimaie is encouraging summer research students, as well as postgraduate students and anyone else who's interested, to consider submitting what they've already written and learn how it can be developed for publication. He hopes postgraduate students will consider drawing from case reports or use the Journal to help them through the process of writing for  a non-student publication. This year, the journal will also include short bios and photos of contributors.

For dentists, the need for research doesn't end in dental school. “After graduation, we still have to to be up-to-date and proficient in evidence-based dentistry,’’ said Azimaie. “This is great practice for that. ‘’  Publication could also give students a boost when they're looking for residencies, Azimaie contends. The initial deadline for submissions is late November. Students who are interested can contact Azimaie attaha.azimaie@rutgers.edu.
