Students Meet Their Match at Annual Event

Fourth-year students celebrated the annual rite of passage known as Match Day by marking the spot where they'll be serving their post graduate residencies.

Matched students stuck push pins in a colored map, symbolizing the state where they matched. As always, New Jersey was crowded with pins.

The Class of 2019 has 122 students, and of those who sought placement through ADEA PASS MATCH, 44 matched. Additionally, 10 who sought placement outside of the match process were placed as of February 4. Of these students, 40 will enter residencies in New Jersey, while 11 will be going to New York and four to Pennsylvania. One student will join the Air Force. Thirty-five students chose to join private practices after graduation and the remaining students are undecided.

To date, 47 students have chosen General Practice Residencies (GPR). Three students chose Advanced Education General Dentistry (AEGD) programs. Among advanced education specialty programs, Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry had two matches, while Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery had one.

Students were grateful to have reached the Match Day milestone.

"I've really enjoyed these four years, so I wouldn't say I'm relieved that this signals the end of dental school, but I am very excited for the opportunity to learn more in a different environment next year,'' said Anush Shah, who will be doing his General Practice Residency at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he is especially looking forward to treating medically complex patients and gaining experience with trauma patients.
