Alums Can Learn About Digital Dentistry at Networking Event

Dr. Mauricio Lavie

The future of dentistry is digital, and past and present students can learn more about it at the RSDM Alumni Association's next Study Club on February 20.

Dr. Mauricio Lavie, Class of '03, will share insights on using 3D scanning and printing technology in today's dental practice. The event, sponsored by the association, will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Rutgers Club in Piscataway.

Once considered toys, 3D tools and techniques have become ever more relevant in contemporary dental practices, according to Dr. Lavie, a prosthodontist at Chatham Prosthodontics. Digital technologies have changed the landscape of what is possible. "From diagnosis and treatment planning through prototyping and execution of final treatment, 3D technologies can improve  accuracy and efficiency,'' says Dr. Lavie.

His talk will cover the basics of 3D printing, facial scanning, the basics of CAD design and use of superimposition as a diagnostic tool. Participants can earn Continuing Dental Education Credits and have a change to network with graduates over dinner and drinks.

The cost is $5o for alumni and guests and $35 for graduates from the Classes of 2014 through 2018 and $20 for RSDM students. For registration and more information, go here.
