Student Spotlight: Elizabeth Tramontana

Elizabeth Tramontana and Dr. Carmine Lomonaco

Teeth cleaning procedures are one of the most basic forms of dental care, but third-year student Elizabeth Tramontana learned how life changing they can be.

She remembers a patient with severely discolored teeth who came in for a series of cleanings. With each visit, she noticed a difference in how he carried himself. “He said, 'you helped my confidence skyrocket.' And it’s not just what he said, he was smiling more and talking more every time he came in, so I could see it was true,''  said Tramontana.

Last month, Tramontana was presented with the Pierre Fauchard Academy 2021 Oral Health Scholarship award for outstanding leadership and academic achievement. The scholarship was bestowed by faculty member Dr. Carmine Lomonaco.

Tramontana is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College who decided to become a dentist after enrolling in RSDM’s Gateway program for college students interested in oral healthcare.

She chose RSDM for dental school because students get hands on experience in their first year, when they begin assisting in clinic.

Now that she has started treating patients herself, she is even more convinced that she wants a career in dentistry. “I love being the architect of someone’s dental plan,’’ she said. “I like seeing the big picture.’’
