Tooth Fairy Adds Magic to Give Kids a Smile Day

On Give Kids a Smile Day last month, first-graders from the Gray Charter School in Newark happily recited lessons they learned about taking care of their teeth and gums. They were awestruck by RSDM’s reigning Tooth Fairy,  Britteny Zito,  a resident in the Department of Orthodontics, who has donned wings and entertained kids for the past few years.


Students Aim to Fill Need for Special Needs Dental Care

Rebecca Portnoff and Justin Dinowitz are recipients of a scholarship for fourth-year students who strive to learn more about treating special care patients. The scholarship is named for Drs. Justin Stone and Robert Kroll, who together built a thriving Essex County practice with a reputation for specializing in patients with disabilities.


In Honor of Family’s Work in India, Alumni Establishes Scholarship

The small clinic in India that Dr. Shanti Jain established in her rural home town grew to a 100-bed hospital before she passed away in 1993, when her sister, Kanti, began leading the facility. To honor them, Jain (Class of ’95) established a Jain family scholarship, which will be awarded to help fund an individual student’s dental mission trip. His hope is that recipients might some day join him on his own mission to the facility, in Khichan India, where he has also volunteered.


Thanks to Funding for Digital Technology, RSDM Will Improve Treatment for HIV Patients

A trip to the dentist can be especially difficult for patients with HIV/AIDS, including the process of getting a dental impression. Many have weakened immune systems and other problems that make long appointments painful and exhausting. But thanks to a federal grant. But chair times will soon be dramatically reduced, thanks to a $150,000 federal grant for digital impression scanners in RSDM’s South Jersey clinics.
