Match Day: Rate Far Above National Average

The Class of 2017 will be headed across the U.S. after graduation, although most will be staying in Jersey.

Eighty-five percent of RSDM fourth-year students who sought a match for residency programs were successful, compared to the national rate of 66 percent.

Of 60  students who sought matches, 51 were placed last month. Nineteen students sought placement outside of the match process. Of the entire Class of 2017 – a total of  118 students– 89 precent were placed.

What was the most popular type of match? General practice residencies, with 48 students accepting one of those, and the armed forces/private practice, where 24 students found matches.

Many grads will remain in Jersey for their residencies: a total of 39. Another 20 will travel to New York. Not many will stray far from the East Coast, although a few are headed south and west, including students who found matches in California, Colorado and Tennessee.

In what has become an annual tradition at RSDM, a map of the U.S. is displayed during the match day ceremony and students placed pins on the location where they’ll be residents.
